What is Ohio's judicial view on gay rights?

In 2004 Ohio ped the Defense of Marriage Act, further banning the already illegal (In Ohio's preexisting laws) union of same couples. In addition, Ohio's DOMA law is now constitutionally (state const. not federal) mandated, and doesn't recognize and same union from any other state or country, nor any institution that replicates marriage, or rights that can only be gained through marriage. No mutual health insurance, survivor benefits, or hospital visitation. Further adoption and co-mortgages have since been called into question. Ohio is one of the least gay friendly states despite Columbus having the third largest gay population in the country, and Yellow Springs Ohio having the highest gay population per capita.
