Why does the US let Russia invade Georgia, but does not let Iraq invade Kuwait?

Russia has a "reason" for invading, Iraq did not. Kuwait also supplies a lot of oil we didn't want Iraq to control. And Russia is an Ally, so if we helped defend against them we could be looking at a MAJOR conflict.
