Crocheting- what am I doing wrong?

I can't tell from the pic but don't understand the ending. Did you turn and then chain 3?I usually turn then make a double crochet in the third st from the end. Here is a link to hopefully help with some examples.You have to get in the habit of counting your stitches after every row and maybe use a smaller hook . It's trial and error until you get it the way you want it. Don't give up!
