Air force national guard dep problem?

My brother fresh out of high school, he enlisted in the Air National Guard about two and half months ago. He joined for some experience and help pay for college. He deicided to sit out the Fall semester of college so he can have enough time complete bmt and tech school. He chose a job where it the tech school time frame will be 5-6 weeks.Now he has been waiting and he recieved bad news stating that he will not be able to leave for basic training until may 2009..what should he do? that will be a year of sitting and waiting..
