Is there a way to indicate a trademark or a copyright without using the symbols?

The Copyright Law of 1975 allows for substitution of (C) - that is, left parenthesis, capital C, right parenthesis - as a substitute for the circle-C symbol. You can also use (TM) - left parenthesis, capital T, capital M, right parenthesis - for trademark.
