Help with book title?

I remember reading this book when i was a child in the 80s. Need help with this, thanks! So the book is about a boy that goes into a library to read about vampires when suddenly the vampire comes to life in the dark recesses of the library. Also, I remember the main title character of the book his name is Alexander. Thanks for your help!
